Promasidor Kenya relocates and consolidates operations
The biggest event for Promasidor Kenya Limited in the second quarter of 2013 has been the relocation and consolidation of Promasidor Kenya Limited onto one site. Previously the business was located in two separate locations about 7 kilometres apart.
The move has represented a complex project, which has been effectively managed by a multi functional team called ‘Project Songa’ (literally translated as “move” in Swahili).
The project was activated in three phases over a period of three months from March to May. Originally Promasidor was based along Mombasa Road at least 7km from where Sossi was produced in the Export Processing Zone in Athi River. The new consolidated site is located at Suvida Complex which is situated at Mlolongo along the Mombasa Road. This is much closer to Nairobi with good transportation links to the city and the rest of the country.
Chaired by Production Manager Raymond Kiliru. the project represented a significant challenge involving civil works, upgrading of electrical power supply, the installation of new milling equipment and the relocation of two production units, as well as all the ancillary equipment associated with security and communications. It is testimony to the team that the project was achieved on time and on budget.
Robert Clarke Promasidor Kenya Managing director asserts that the move to Suvida will greatly improve the Kenyan business in terms of efficiency and effectiveness as it has reduced costs as well as providing all the efficiencies of operating from one consolidated site.
