Promasidor celebrates media excellence

Lagos, Nigeria, 20 May, 2013: It was a night of celebration and excitement for journalists in Nigeria when Promasidor Nigeria recently honoured five outstanding journalists for media excellence in five major areas of journalism at the inaugural edition of its Quill Awards.

The five categories are the Brand Advocate of the year, Best Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report of the year, Most Educative Report of the year, Best Report on Nutrition and the Best Photo Story of the year. The company instituted the awards in 2012 at its Media Brand Academy as a way of rewarding excellence in journalism in Nigeria.

Mrs. Ngozi Okpalakune, Chief Correspondent with Champion, emerged as the star winner of the Brand Advocate of the Year category while Mr. Tubosun Ogundare of National Mirror won the Most Educative Report of the Year.

Two colleagues from BusinessDay also distinguished themselves: Mr. Daniel Obi, whose feature article titled “Nation Building through Promasidor Maths Competition CSR Initiative”, was adjudged the Best CRS Report of the Year and Mr. Alexander Chiejina’s “Gombe, Kano, Other States at Risk of Sahelian Crises” article clinched the Best Report on Nutrition.

Mr. Sodiq Adelakun of Punch, a young professional journalist with an eye for uncommon developments in his environment, won the Best Photo Story of the Year Award, with his photo story entitled “Helpless Gaze”.

The four journalists got high-end laptops while the photojournalist went home with a high-end camera. Apart from this, Promasidor will arrange customised courses for each of the winners with the School of Media and Communications (SMC) of the Pan Africa University (PAU).

Addressing guests on the occasion, Chief Keith Richards, Managing Director of Promasidor, explained that Promasidor had this year singled out five categories in the print media to be recognised and rewarded and would continue to grow and extend to other media platforms in the coming years.
