Conservation Fisherman Andy Taylor

Every year Andy Taylor, MD, Promasidor Zambia, takes part in the Zambia National Fishing Competition on Lake Tanganyika.
The emphasis is on using light tackle: 1kg, 2kg and 6kg competitions. This year they added a new dimension in the interests of conservation, which was “catch and release”. Andy won a trophy for the largest fish released in the 1kg class, which was a 2.5kg Nkupe. Overall his team came 6th out of 22 teams.
Another pleasing catch was this 5kg Nile perch which did not survive, but certainly made a good few portions of fish ‘n chips for the lodge.
